This is a great first for the department of Isère. Catherine Séguin was named new prefect of the department on Wednesday, November 6, at the Council of Ministers.
The woman who has been prefect of Oise since February 2023 becomes the first woman to head the department's prefecture. She replaces Louis Laugier, who became director general of the national police (DGPN).
Philippe Séguin's daughter
If the surname Catherine Séguin evokes something for you, that's normal. She is none other than the daughter of Philippe Séguin, figure of the RPR under the Fifth Republic, president of the National Assembly from 1993 to 1997 and emblematic supporter of the “no” in the referendum on the Maastricht Treaty.
After working in the private sector, particularly in the audiovisual sector, Catherine Séguin has a long career in administration on her CV. Aged 54, the senior civil servant entered the prefectural body in 2011. She was notably sub-prefect of Bayonne, prefect of Gers, Loire, then Oise since February 2023.
Studies in Isère
The department is not foreign to her either since Catherine Séguin carried out part of her studies in Isère.
She obtained a diploma of advanced studies (DEA) in English studies in 1993 at the University of Grenoble-III.
