Valérian Tabard, head of regional citizen mobilization programs at LPO Occitanie and responsible for community life, will host this day of discovery of the birds of Ariège and will explain actions in favor of biodiversity in his garden. The morning will be dedicated to bird watching in the bamboo park, from 10 a.m. to noon. This morning will be an opportunity to explore the park and identify the varied songs of the birds. In the afternoon, Valérian will share tips for encouraging biodiversity in your own garden and becoming an ambassador for nature. We will also see how to accommodate other animals.
At the moment, you can participate in a naturalist mission, a real investigation into the hedgehog in order to better understand the state of health of this species. For the moment, mobilization in Ariège remains limited. All nature enthusiasts are invited to act for this friendly and precious little animal. An essential action, because the European Hedgehog is now classified among the species almost threatened with extinction. This regression can be explained by various causes: disappearance of hedges and meadows, contamination of ecosystems by pesticides and road mortality.
To help them, simply leave a little wild corner in the garden, add mulch to the trees to allow hedgehogs to build their nests, create an organic vegetable garden and guarantee a passage between adjoining gardens. “Your mission, if you accept it, is to obtain a footprint tunnel, place it for 5 nights in your garden or in nature and identify the footprints in the early morning,” explains Valérian, who will lead the day in Lapenne . “The hedgehog is an excellent growing aid, very useful in the garden.”
The “Discovery of Birds” walk is open to all, with an entrance fee to the park of €8.80. The afternoon meeting is free for members and future members of the LPO Ariège.
