A second suspect in the investigation into the stabbing murder of a 19-year-old in Rennes on November 2 was indicted for murder and imprisoned, the prosecution announced Thursday, November 7. This is a 22-year-old man already convicted of acts of violence, kidnapping and sequestration and possession of drugs, states the public prosecutor Frédéric Teillet in a press release.

At the end of his police custody, he was “presented to the investigating magistrate who indicted him” and he was placed in pre-trial detention, “as requested by the Rennes public prosecutor’s office”added the magistrate.

The victim was hit by two people while he was on a footbridge overlooking the railway tracks near the university hospital. One of the attackers stabbed him several times, the second then made him fall to the ground and punched him in the face, the prosecutor said earlier this week. Two witnesses immediately intervened to help the victim and take her to the emergency room, where she died.

In the evening, an 18-year-old boy presented himself to the Rennes police station, admitting to being the author of the stabbings. He explained in custody “having wanted to settle a dispute with the victim, without specifying what nature, and that to do this, he had bought a knife shortly before the events”according to Frédéric Teillet.

This young person was also indicted and imprisoned on Monday after his custody. If the two suspects as well as the victim are known to the courts for offenses related to drug trafficking, the link with the murder has not been formally established at this stage of the procedure.
