A fifth wolf was killed in Doubs on October 25, in the commune of Fourgs. The carcass of the animal, which had fled, injured, was found the next day following a search for blood. It is also the second predator killed in the territory of the municipality. The three others were killed in Villedieu, Mouthe and Chaux-Neuve.
Direct defense shooting favored over scare shooting
The new national wolf plan, which came into force in the spring, favors direct defensive shooting to the detriment of scaring shooting. It should be noted that the Doubs prefecture did not communicate on this shooting as usual and also that the Doubs prefect assured in September that “we will not eliminate the wolf in the Doubs”.
More communicative than their French counterparts, the Swiss authorities estimated the Risoux pack at 9 members including half a dozen cubs in 2024 and that of Jougne at a couple and four cubs. These are the two packs most likely responsible for the attacks in the Val de Mouthe, not counting possible dispersing animals.
