Motorists will have to slow down from this Friday on the A86. During the night from Thursday to Friday, signs must be installed to lower the speed from 90 km/h to 70 km/h on a five-kilometer stretch between Saint-Denis and La Courneuve.
On October 29, Isabelle Pantèbre, prefect responsible for equal opportunities in Seine-Saint-Denis and interim prefect of the department, signed a decree governing this experiment requested by many local elected officials for several years. It must in particular make it possible to combat noise pollution.
“Due to the urban environment and the density of population living near the A86 in the crossing of the territories of Saint-Denis, La Courneuve and Aubervilliers, a motorway section on which significant daily traffic volumes are measured , a population estimated at 5,000 people is likely to be exposed in a prolonged and repeated manner to sound levels above the regulatory threshold of 65 dB (A) during the day and 60 dB (A) at night,” recalls the decree.
The text also underlines that lowering the maximum authorized speed on this five-kilometer section is likely to produce “direct or indirect positive externalities in terms of road safety policy and environmental policy”. “This measure should ultimately allow a reduction in noise pollution of around 40% for local residents but also reduce the accident rate, without a negative impact on travel times”, adds the Island Roads Department. -de-France.
The experiment will be evaluated over a period of one year. Several speed cameras will ensure that motorists respect the new regulations. According to Kader Chibane (EELV), elected in Saint-Denis and advisor in charge of the transformation of the A1 motorway in the Plaine commune territory, “the radars will be operational in a month so that motorists get used to it”. Contacted this Thursday afternoon on this subject, the Seine-Saint-Denis prefecture did not respond to us.
