It was a neighbor who raised the alarm. Wednesday November 6, 2024, it was 9:10 p.m. when the firefighters received a call from a resident of rue de la Libération, in Magny-en-Vexin (Val-d'Oise). The latter indicates that a fire broke out in an apartment on the first floor of a building located next to his home.
Refrigerator malfunction
A fire crew immediately responded to the scene. The latter quickly came to grips with the disaster which had broken out in the kitchen of the accommodation. According to the first observations made by the unit of Investigation of causes and circumstances of fire (Rcci) of the Val-d'Oise departmental fire and rescue service, a refrigerator malfunction would be the cause of the fire.
Four victims poisoned by smoke
Although there were no injuries, the firefighters treated four victims lightly. poisoned by fumesthe three occupants of the accommodation, including the 87-year-old owner, as well as the neighbor. However, their condition did not require transport to hospital.
Furthermore, while the electricity was cut off in the apartment, it could not be restored due to the obsolescence of the network. The residents were thus subject to rehousing which had to be provided by a member of their family.
