Several plane trees on the RD25 et RD35 are sick, attacked by colored canker. The Department of Héraultwhich ensures the management and maintenance of alignment trees along the departmental road network, provides the felling of these trees from November 4 to 8 has Soubès and Lodève.

Ensuring the safety of users and preserving the environment

On the RD35 (between the breath clinic and the Plans commune de Lodève junction) and the RD25 (before the entrance to the commune of Soubès), the results of the analysis carried out by FREDON confirmed the attack of plane trees by colored canker, a very aggressive fungus which has wreaked havoc in particular around the Canal du Midi. In order to ensure the user safety and avoid any spread plant diseases along departmental roads, the Department of Hérault is forced to cut down all the plane trees, seventeenattacked by this incurable disease. Thus, between Monday November 4 and Friday November 8, the roads will be blocked et diversions will be put in place. THE users are called to be extremely vigilant.

New trees planted

This operation is carried out in the fall to reduce impacts on biodiversity and in particular the avifauna. And like all fellings carried out for health reasons, the felled plane trees will be compensated by the Department by planting new trees.

For information, this action is part of the regulatory framework of preventive measures against the spread of canker, which provides for cutting down all neighboring plane trees around the infected subject to form a sanitary cordon and protect healthy plane trees.

40,000 trees maintained on departmental roads

The Hérault Department manages the tree heritage along its departmental roads, i.e. more than 40,000 trees. The maintenance of road plantations is the subject of a rigorous management plan, defining intervention frequencies according to the species and the principles of “green pruning” making it possible to reconcile the issues of public safety and the physiological state of the trees and landscape preservation.
