From 14 to 16: a weekend to (re)discover archeology

For 12 years, the European Archeology Days have invited the public to discover the advances and behind the scenes of this discipline which studies the material traces of societies, from Prehistory to the most recent times.

In Dordogne, this event is supported by the Departmental Council, in collaboration with the Prehistory Interpretation Center, the National Institute of Preventive Archaeological Research and the National Museum of Prehistory.

At the Campagne departmental estate, the Department will set up an Archeology Village with workshops and meetings. With, on the program:

– Manufacture of assegais and arrows, speargun and bow shooting,

– Manufacture of a canoe and discovery of the Neolithic,

– Fire lighting challenge,

– Construction of a prehistoric habitat,

– Treasure hunt and orientation in the forest,

– Did you say preventive archaeology?

– The beginnings of metallurgy,

– Field archeology under the microscope,

– After the excavation, the studies,

– Screening of the films “The gestures of prehistory”.

European Jet Weapons Shooting Championships

Finally, the Domaine de Campagne will be the scene of the European jet weapons shooting championship and the World precision propellant shooting championship on June 15 and 16.

Competitors from all over the world will compete in two events:

– On Saturday, from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m., the traditional European archery championship event, they will have to total a maximum of points on 30 targets of different sizes along a one-kilometer course;

– Sunday, from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m., round of the propeller precision shooting world championship.

The general public will be able to register for the propeller shooting championships, however it will be necessary to have their own equipment (the departmental archeology service will be able to provide some equipment).

Archéocapsule exhibition “Of Environments and Humans”

Discover through this exhibition the complex way in which ancient societies exploited natural resources while responding to environmental and climatic constraints. Knowledge that could help us find sustainable solutions for the future.

At the National Museum of Prehistory, from June 14 to 16

Exhibition and guided tour – Prehistory Marathon

The museographic installation of the 2024 edition, “The museum comes out of its reserve!”, aims to show the richness and diversity of the collections and wishes to promote the “Olympic values” of friendship and respect between the peoples.

In Sainte-Alvère, June 15

Saturday June 15 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., come and meet Inrap archaeologists on the Place de Sainte-Alvère. An animation will take place based on a participatory model telling us about the organization of a village.

From 6:30 p.m., a conference will focus on the contribution of archaeological research to the knowledge of paleo-landscapes in the Dordogne.

At the Château de Commarque, June 15

Show / circus and archaeo – Huellas by Cie Hold-up & Co

Huellas, which means “traces”, is a show which was created on the Rozel site where Neanderthal footprints were found. On clay soil, an acrobatic duo explores all the humorous potential of the encounter between Neanderthals and Homo sapiens. Two musicians accompany this show which takes us back to our origins and brings us closer to our distant ancestors.

A show offered by the Agora and the Prehistory Interpretation Center with the assistance of the Château de Commarque.
