All political colors combined, more than a hundred mayors responded this Thursday at noon to the rally in front of the prefecture to protest against budget cuts.
“We cannot bring the municipalities to the ground.” Following the initiative of Karine Traval-Michelet, PS mayor of Colomiers, and the decision of the president of the Muretain agglomeration, André Mandement, to close the town halls this Thursday, November 7, more than a hundred mayors and elected officials from Haute-Garonne gathered this afternoon in front of the prefecture, in Toulouse, to protest against the budget cuts announced by the government.
All are in the process of quantifying the consequences for the management of their municipalities which promise to be “catastrophic”. Elected officials denounce the impact on local services but also on economic life in the event of a slowdown in investment.
A delegation is being received by the prefect's chief of staff. Elected officials still hope to change these decisions and say they are determined to “go all the way”.
