A suspect in the shooting which left one dead and four injured, all minors, last Thursday October 31 in Poitiers surrendered to the police in Paris and after being taken into police custody was transferred to Vienne. Checks have shown that this is indeed the person they are looking for. According to a police source on site, the suspect is of Guadeloupean origin.
As part of the investigation opened for assassination and attempted assassinations, a man who “would have engaged in the sale of narcotics” in the Couronneries district, site of the shooting that occurred on Thursday, October 31 in the evening, “during the previous days”had been actively sought since Friday. Placed in police custody, he was identified as the alleged shooter whose shots left one dead and four injured, all minors. According to a union police source, he is of Guadeloupean origin and is 25 years old.
“This is the alleged shooter. He is known to the police”particularly for facts related to drug trafficking, this source told AFP. He was also indicted for possession of weapons in Marseille, she said, confirming information from the daily Le Parisien. The suspect went to the police in Paris where he was taken into custody, according to the prosecution. According to police sources, he was then transferred to Poitiers.
The public prosecutor in Poitiers, Cyril Lacombe, indicated on Tuesday that he had launched “checks” to confirm that this was indeed the person targeted by a search warrant as part of the investigation opened last Friday for assassination and attempted murder. This warrant targeted a man who “would have engaged in the sale of narcotics” in the Couronneries district, site of the shooting which occurred on the evening of October 31.
During a search of a home he allegedly occupied, seven rounds of ammunition of the same caliber as the 11 found on the premises, as well as “partial elements of a disassembled weapon”were seized by the police according to the public prosecutor Cyril Lacombe.
The shooting occurred Thursday evening in the Couronneries district, classified as a priority for city policy (QPV), in front of a kebab restaurant, while a Halloween evening organized by an association had brought together many young people nearby. Commenting on the facts Friday morning on BFMTV/RMC, the Minister of the Interior, Bruno Retailleau, wrongly declared that“a brawl between rival gangs” then opposed “several hundred people”. “Narcocrackers no longer have limits (…) We are at a tipping point”he added. According to the police and the prosecutor's office, brief scuffles only involved a few dozen people among the crowd present and the police put an end to them quickly.
The 15-year-old boy killed “had no problem with delinquency”, underlined this weekend her mother's lawyer, Me Yasmina Djoudi, who deplores “amalgams”. According to her, the boy “told his mother that he was going to buy a sandwich before going home. And he was shot.” Il “had absolutely nothing to do with drug trafficking”added the environmentalist mayor of Poitiers, Léonore Moncond'huy, on Monday, asking the Minister of the Interior to “restore the truth”.
