Renowned throughout the world, sweet wines from Sauternes and Barsac are produced from several grape varieties such as Sémillon, Muscadelle or Sauvignon Blanc. In the fall, the vines are affected by botrytis cinereaa fungus that develops on grapes, causing the appearance of the famous “noble rot”, which will give this unique aromatic richness to the wines of the appellation.
The Sauternes and Barsac vineyard is the Bordeaux vineyard with the most classified growths 1855 : the 27 grands crus, or 40% of the Sauternes properties classified in 1855
