During All Saints' Day weekend, the prefect of Puy-de-Dôme set up an operation, “Blue Routes” in order to reduce road accidents. According to 7 days in Clermont1,170 offenses were noted and sanctioned, a large part of which was for speeding.
Nearly 650 gendarmes and police officers from the department were mobilized to carry out checks and ensure the safety of motorists, backpackers and heavy goods vehicle drivers on the road.
A mess of offenses
During the more than 179 checks, 40% of the fines concerned speeding, while the rest involved driving under the influence of alcohol and drugs, using the telephone while driving or even insurance defects. In total, 95 drivers had their driving licenses revoked and more than sixty cars ended up impounded.
In 2024, there will be 32 deaths on the roads of Puy-de-Dôme, three fewer than in 2023 if we take the same period into account. The increase in controls should bear fruit in the long term, even if the drop in the number of deaths is not yet drastic.
