With the ambition to improve air quality in Paris, two associations, Respire and Clean Cities, proposed the creation of a Peaceful Delivery Zone (ZLA) in a press release released on November 5, 2024 and relayed on This recommendation is the conclusion of a study carried out by the two structures on the impact of freight transport on air pollution in the capital.

Concretely, they recommend excluding thermal delivery vehicles in favor of light vehicles or vehicles equipped with electric or hydrogen engines, capable of providing goods transport services. “Deliveries are useful to our daily lives, to economic activity. With this study, we are not saying that we must stop deliveries, we are saying that we must transform them”explained Tony Renucci, general manager of Respire, at the microphone of BFM TV.
20% of traffic but 40% of pollution
The establishment of this ZLA must be gradual, according to the association: “Initially, a time window of 4 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. could allow all types of vehicles to operate, then restrictions would apply the rest of the day to thermal vehicles”specifies the press release. The long-term objective is to completely ban thermal delivery vehicles from the capital.
This initiative aims to reduce polluting emissions in Paris, where heavy goods vehicles and light utility vehicles (LCV) represent 20% of traffic but are responsible for 40% of pollutant concentrations, according to the study. The proposal also receives a favorable reception from Parisians: 81% of them say they are in favor of the establishment of a peaceful delivery zone in the capital, according to an Opinion Way survey carried out for the two associations in June last.
