The former Minister Delegate in charge of the Budget under the presidency of François Hollande, convicted of tax fraud, has already announced that he will run in the next legislative elections.

Former socialist minister Jérôme Cahuzac, convicted of tax fraud, announced Sunday evening that he will be a candidate in Lot-et-Garonne in the next legislative elections, following the dissolution of the National Assembly by President Emmanuel Macron. The former deputy mayor of Villeneuve-sur-Lot minister delegate in charge of the Budget under the presidency of François Hollande, will be “candidate under the center left label”facing the outgoing MP RN Annick Cousin, in the 3rd constituency of the department, he declared to AFP, confirming information from The Dispatch.

“I am not dependent and I do not depend on any party”added the former elected official, aged 71, who has made his return to the political scene in Lot-et-Garonne since the fall by organizing several public meetings. “It’s clear that I’m not forbidding myself anything”he declared at the end of November on France Inter, estimating “have paid off one’s debt”.

Jérôme Cahuzac had denied “eye to eye” before deputies holding a hidden account abroad after the Mediapart revelations in 2013. Five years later, he was sentenced for tax evasion to four years in prison, two of which were suspended, and five years of ineligibility. In Sunday’s European election, the RN list led by Jordan Bardella came first in Lot-et-Garonne with more than 38% of the votes. The party currently holds two of the department’s three constituencies.
