The national airline is currently evaluating offers from aircraft manufacturers Airbus, Boeing and Embraer with a view to placing an order for 188 aircraft, by September 2024, said Royal Air Maroc (RAM) CEO Abdelhamid Addou in an interview granted to Bloomberg on the sidelines of the IATA AGM in Dubai.

“We are studying the offers received from aircraft manufacturers last month, and we will then see what the delivery schedule will be and under what conditions we will be able to obtain them,” announced Abdelhamid Addou, specifying that around two thirds of the 188 aircraft desired will be aircraft. narrow-body aircraft, the remainder being wide-body aircraft offering no more than 350 seats.

He also announced that Royal Air Maroc is looking for 30 regional transport planes. “Whatever the order, not all planes will arrive in time to meet growing demand, and the company will fill the gap with leased planes,” he stressed.

The CEO thus clarified that the national airline will make up the deficit with leased planes. As a reminder, RAM had confirmed the launch of a call for tenders on April 15 for the acquisition of a maximum of 200 new aircraft to support the implementation of the strategic roadmap for the tourism sector 2023-2026. This roadmap aims to reach 17.5 million tourists in 2026, $12 billion in revenue and 200,000 additional direct and indirect jobs in the tourism sector or even 26 million by 2030, the year in which the Kingdom will organize a Cup of the FIFA World Cup with Spain and Portugal.

The airline currently has a mixed fleet of 50 regional, short-haul and long-haul aircraft, including Embraer 190s, Boeing 737-800s and 787 Dreamliners.
