For three weeks and the resignation of Hugo Prevost from his mandate as deputy for the 1st constituency of Isère, Olivier Véran has left doubts lingering. Emmanuel Macron's former minister, beaten in the second round in July in this 1st constituency, will not leave again: he announced this Tuesday evening on social network X.
“These last few months have allowed me to reflect with a rested head, after twelve years of local and national mandates carried out at full speed, he wrote in his message. I never considered politics as a career. I aspire to serve my country differently, to engage differently.” Cautiously, he clarifies that he is not saying goodbye to politics: “Anyway, in politics, “never” means “not right away” he concludes his press release.
Support for the candidacy of Camille Galliard-Minier
Olivier Véran takes advantage of this post to support the woman who was his deputy between 2017 and 2022, Camille Galliard-Minier. The latter had also occupied her seat in the National Assembly from 2020, when Olivier Véran was called to the Ministry of Health at the start of the Covid-19 pandemic.
Camille Galliard-Minier is therefore now one of the declared candidates in this first constituency. The socialist Amandine Germain was the first to put herself forward as a candidate for the left. Since then, Lyes Louffok has been invested by LFI and EELV. Nathalie Béranger (LR) is also a candidate in this 1st constituency, as is the centrist Hervé Gerbi, Alexandre Lacroix (LR-RN alliance), and finally Rémi Adam for Lutte Ouvrière.
The date of the election is not yet officially known, but it must be held before mid-January 2025. This by-election follows the resignation of Hugo Prevost, elected last July. Excluded from the LFI group after accusations of sexist and sexual violence, he left his mandate in mid-October.
