This Monday afternoon, the first shared board of directors of Fire and Rescue Services (SIS) 2A and 2B was held in Corte, bringing together the presidents Véronique Arrighi (SIS 2A) and Hyacinthe Vanni (SIS 2B) , municipal elected officials, officers, and representatives of the State, including Florian Straser, chief of staff of the prefect of Corsica, and Magaly Chapey, chief of staff of the prefect of Haute-Corse.
This first council made it possible to detail the main issues of this unprecedented project: harmonizing the practices of the two SIS, strengthening prevention and ensuring optimal territorial coverage but also presenting the establishment project, which aims to create a unified service for all of Corsica, better adapted to the particularities of the territory. The objective is to make the fire and rescue service more responsive and better adapted to local specificities, by harmonizing practices, strengthening prevention and ensuring effective territorial coverage for the island.
This project, mentioned for the first time in 2022, had raised many expectations, without public realization until today. The Corte meeting made it possible to officially relaunch the process and lay the foundations of a new organization. The merger of the two SIS should in particular lead to greater versatility and greater efficiency in responding to emergencies, both in urban and rural areas. Elected officials unanimously approved this first version of the project, which lays the foundations of a common organization and marks a concrete step in the construction of this island service.
This meeting also allowed firefighters to share their expectations about this new model.
Although concrete adjustments still remain to come, this first meeting between the two SIS of Corsica lays the foundations of a centralized fire and rescue service, designed to respond to the specificities and needs of the territory.
