December 12, 2023. As his boat approaches the finish line of the “Return to Base” race, Sébastien Simon dismasted but still managed to complete this solo transatlantic race in 17th place.

End of the ordeal for the skipper of Les Sables d’Olonne who a few days earlier and while fighting for a place on the podium had seriously injured his head off the Azores.

Victim of a serious head trauma with open wound and broken cervical vertebrahe was forced to sew his own skull back together with staples.

Less than a year later, here he is at the start of his second Vendée Globe with the intention of racing among the contenders for the podium, but also with the fierce desire to take revenge on the last edition where he was forced to retire off the Cape of Good Hope while he was racing in 4th position in the fleet.

Winner of La Solitaire du Figaro and the French Elite offshore racing championship in 2018, Sébastien Simon hopes that his luck will change.

“I want to show those who support me that they were right to trust me. Afterwards, what I experienced was very extreme. This demonstrates to what extent our sport is becoming more and more violent. We have also adapted the boat accordingly so that this does not happen again. »

The start of the 10th edition of the Vendée Globe will be given on Sunday November 10 at 1:02 p.m.
