Tours Criminal Court
The public prosecutor had requested six months in prison in full with a suspended probationary period, on October 8, 2024, against the two abusive parents. The criminal court of Tours (Indre-et-Loire), a month later, decided otherwise.
The two defendants were acquitted of the acts of deprivation of care on Tuesday, November 5, but found guilty of violence against their children, despite the acquittals pleaded by the defense lawyers.
The father of the family thus receives three months of imprisonment in full, with a simple suspended sentence. His partner received a six-month prison sentence in full, with a probationary suspension of two years, with the obligation to undertake treatment linked to his alcohol addiction.
The siblings of nine children, from this blended family, described repeated verbal violence whenever their mother was drunk. Since 2016, the drink had become a refuge after a difficult dismissal and various life trials.
An intolerable discomfort for the youngest
The conflictual climate between the two parents already constituted, in itself, violence for the children. Particularly for the youngest, aged 14, the couple's common child.
The teenager's suicide attempt, on June 25, 2024, marked the starting point of the procedure. A cry for help that his parents had neither seen nor heard.
Parental authority was not withdrawn from the two defendants, following the wishes of the prosecution. “This teenager needs her parents and I believe in improvement through follow-up”had confided the representative of the public prosecutor.
