Friday evening, three arrests were carried out in Rillieux-la-Pape in the Velette district.

Could it be that the ambush set up an hour later on two TCL buses on line C5 and then set on fire was a response to the latter?

This Monday, one of the three individuals arrested was tried at the judicial court as part of an immediate appearance. Aged 20, he was accused of having rebelled when the police intervened to put an end to a wild barbecue at the foot of a building.

The defendant explained that he had been arrested arbitrarily; the police described him as a violent and threatening individual.

It is difficult to separate fact from fiction, since the officials' body-worn cameras did not work well during the arrest.

When in doubt, and because the defendant had already been sentenced in 2022 for violence committed against a municipal police officer, a sentence of 4 months in prison was imposed for his rebellion. The young Rillard returned behind bars after the hearing.
