Victim of what we modestly call a long illness, François Carbonell died Monday, November 4, in the afternoon at the Parc clinic.
Jean Sellierpresident of the Community of Communes of Pays de L'Aigle (Orne), accompanied him until his last hours.
François left after months of fighting the scourge of cancer which caused him so much suffering. François was an endearing and devoted man for the common cause
Elected mayor in June 2020 for a 5e mandatevice-president of the Cdc of Pays de L'Aigle, president of various associations, including Lutille, “he always fought with conviction and a lot of intelligence. I have lost an elected colleague who is competent, upright and full of humanity. Above all, I am losing a true friend who I already miss.”
“Rurality served in all sauces”
Despite the exhaustion and the pain which no longer left him, the boss of the rural mayors of Orne had not stopped fighting for the rurality that he loved so much. His rurality in which he saw all the qualities to play an essential role.
Far from being naive, he had the feeling that the villages were the playthings of politics from above. “Rurality is neglected in favor of the attractiveness of hub cities, whatever the profile of the department. And yet, as soon as an election approaches, presidential or otherwise… rurality is served in all sauces and, above all, in all speeches. The moment the elections are over, rurality is no longer relevant.”
“If we don’t react very quickly…”
His message was straightforward and again recently, with the confidence of someone who has nothing to lose, he asked his elected colleagues not to give up. That September 26, during his last appearance on community councilto put an end to the long work on the PLUi, he castigated the various and varied commissions made up of personalities not always in their place. “Many in these commissions are people who come to bully us… and if we don’t react very quickly, soon we will no longer have our say.”
Goodbye friend
A man of faith, of faith in a man of good will, this 66-year-old retired journalist had a sense of the right word. He said, “the elected officials are the McGyvers of the rural world. They must know how to do everything with nothing.” But it was other evils that prevailed, surrounded by the love of his family.
Goodbye friend and use the two wings of your name to go and sit high in the sky that you have prayed for so much.
