He was part of a group of eight hikers from Brignais in the Rhône and was walking in an area between the Pointe des Arlicots and the Pointe des Arces, when he fell about a hundred meters. The mountain group of Savoie firefighters, supported by the Haute-Savoie security helicopter (Dragon 74) carried out the rescue operation.
The septuagenarian was transported in critical condition to Grenoble hospital (Isère), where he was declared dead shortly after his arrival. The rest of the group was taken care of by the emergency services to return safely to École. The gendarmerie opened an investigation.
