The funeral of the cyclist crushed by a motorist in on October 15 was celebrated on Saturday morning in his village in the Hautes-Alpes. Paul Varry was 27 years old. His family and friends paid him a final tribute.

A final farewell for Paul. The funeral of Paul Varry, this 27-year-old cyclist crushed by an SUV on a cycle path in Paris on October 15, was celebrated on Saturday morning. Several hundred people gathered in his native village of 300 inhabitants, in La Faurie in the Hautes-Alpes. His family, neighbors and friends all devastated by Paul's disappearance.

The family of the killed cyclist had set up a marquee in a meadow in the town. Many photos of Paul were displayed, from his childhood in the village to his move to Paris where he was a computer developer.

The secular funeral ceremony continued with a procession, behind the funeral vehicle, towards the village cemetery where Paul Varry was buried. The procession was accompanied by the music of a brass band. The Dauphiné Libéré.

“I knew Paul since I was little. It’s a lot of pain,” Ghislaine, a close family member, told BFMTV DICI. For Eve, a friend, “it was terrible, there are no words to describe what happened.”

The 52-year-old man who killed Paul Varry with his vehicle was taking his 17-year-old daughter to an eye doctor appointment when the accident occurred. The driver was indicted for murder and imprisoned. He is suspected of having deliberately run over the young cyclist with his Mercedes SUV.
