The inhabitants of Gard are called to be extremely vigilant by the prefecture and the Departmental Directorate of Population Protection (DDPP).

Very recently, several precarious lease stores have opened their doors and offer furniture sales with the firm intention of ripping you off. There police and the public authorities warn the consumers.

A well-established scam

Ces bad traders regularly do the same thing to fool potential buyers. It starts with a phone call then a letter inviting consumers to “come and collect a gift with their spouse”.

Upon arriving on site, the customer, accompanied or not, receives a gift. But it doesn't stop there. A team of professionals then enters the scene and offers to acquire the goods on display with a certain insistence to precipitate the act of purchasing furniture.

The very expensive price of the goods is surprising but seasoned salespeople reassure and encourage potential buyers to place orders thanks to substantial discounts (in fact, these discounts are not always based on prices actually charged).

In reflection about the opportunity of such an offerthe customer is then confronted with “a commercial approach accompanied by aggressive practices”.

Check the prices charged

From now on, public authorities “invite consumers to exercise particularly critical view on the generosity of discounts, and to check the prices charged by other businesses before signing an order form.

If you have already been the victim of such a practice, the DDPP specifies that the law can protect you in the event of “inconsiderate purchasing”:

• in the event of signing a purchase order, it is forbidden au seller to collect, under any pretext, and in any form, a sum of money before the expiration of a period of seven days. No deliveries should be made during this period.

This period, intended to reflect or compare prices, can also be used to cancel an order.

To withdraw, simply detach and complete the withdrawal slip from the order form then send it to the address indicated by registered letter with acknowledgment of receipt, specifies the prefecture. This shipment definitively terminates the sales contract and releases the buyer from any commitment.

Consumers should not forget to keep acknowledgment of receipt who will prove termination of the contract before a judge.
