Trained in Montpellier, Amir Tizi-Oualou (18 years old) left Hérault this summer for a starting position in Tourcoing. The future passer of the Blues reunites with MHSC VB and his friend Joris Seddik, Saturday (7 p.m.) in Roubaix for the clash of the 7th day of the men's League A.
How is your new life going in the North?
For the moment, the weather is quite good. I think I managed to bring back the sun from Montpellier (laughs). It's the first time I've been away from my family for so long, my parents who live in Avignon are a little sad but that's how it is.
Was it essential for your career to leave Montpellier?
It was not obligatory, I had several offers to start in a League A team. This one was difficult to refuse even if my objective was not necessarily to leave Montpellier. I left on good terms.
But you didn't have the assurance of being a holder of the MHSC VB?
In Montpellier, I was going to be in competition with Raphaël Corre, which could have helped me for the rest of my career. I preferred to be assured of a starting place, especially since with Tourcoing, I will play in the European Cup.
Is this match against MHSC VB special for you?
I will play against my former partners with whom I got along well and Joris (Seddik). This will be the first time we both face each other. It will be fun to play against each other but also disturbing not to wear the same colors. It's a great challenge to play against your best friend.
Joris Seddik, also 18 years old, won the Nations League with France this summer. Do you think you will be able to play with the Blues in the next games?
I didn't wait to see Joris in the French team, I've had this dream since I was little. It became a big goal. If I play as well as possible this year, I would have the chance to go with the France team like this summer when I did an internship and a friendly match against the Netherlands in Orléans. It's in the back of my mind but for the moment I'm thinking more about the collective objectives with Tourcoing.
What do you think will lead to the rest of your career?
I signed a two-year contract in Tourcoing with an exit at the end of the first year. I think that to be selected for the French team, you have to play for a club abroad. I know I'm going to go, it's a dream, but I think I have time. The French championship is very tough, homogeneous with extraordinary players.
