Fast, reliable 100% electric, they were full of promise for the inhabitants of South Essonne, but the T Zen4 buses are especially late in delivery. The Belgian service provider Van Hool has filed for bankruptcy and the vehicles are stuck at the factory.
“Manufacturing will be taken over by HESS, a Swiss manufacturer, but everything needs to fall into place. Manufacturing restarts so that the bus can be delivered, tested and put into service,” explains Bernard Gobitz, vice-president of FNAUT,a National Federation of Transport User Associations.
Several months of delay are expected for this T Zen 4 which links Viry-Châtillon to Corbeil-Essonnes and which was to replace the saturated line 402. With 40,000 passengers/day, it is currently the densest line in the greater suburbs. A 14 km lane dedicated specifically to these buses as if it were a tramway, Essonians have been coveting this new mode of transport for more than 15 years.
No new timetable has been mentioned for the entry into service of the line which was due to start at the beginning of 2025.
