Colorful, fragrant and to be consumed in moderation, these are the arranged rums offered by Christopher Williams who opened BZ'rHum on October 1, in the town of Mahalon. Native of Quimper, postman in Bigouden country, the young thirty-year-old initially trained in sales, offers his artisanal production favoring local products, as a link between Brittany and Guadeloupe, the origin of his family. “I've been making mixed rum since I was 18 for those around me, it's thanks to their feedback that I'm taking the plunge today. I focus on quality, taste, highlighting the fruit, respect for tradition. I want it to be good,” he says.
Breton honey replaces sugar
Its specificity is to use honey (Breton) rather than sugar: “It gives a flowery taste and sweetness. It's more natural. » Vanilla, ginger-lemon, mango-passion fruit, raspberry or pineapple caramelized with honey macerate for an average of three months in agricultural rum. There is no shortage of ideas for refining recipes and expanding the choice by experimenting with buckwheat, salted butter caramel or local strawberries. Added to this are rum cream, planter and coconut punch.
“I offer products that can be enjoyed by everyone with a range of degrees from 10 to 38°. And I am open to anything to grow,” explains the man who aims for a production of 600 to 800 bottles per year. Its products, offered by several local restaurateurs, will be sold in delicatessens, wine merchants and during Christmas markets (Mahalon, Confort-Meilars, Landudec, Gourlizon, etc.) or by direct order by email while waiting for a website dedicated to come.
