Work on the future care center for mammals in Haute-Vienne interrupted by bad weather

The rains of mid-October delayed the creation of the care center for mammals in Haute-. The Erina association calls for solidarity.

For a year, the Erina association has been renovating a house in Razès, in Haute-Vienne. The two founders, Sarah Lou Logé and Marion Rabiet, want to create a care center for wild mammals, the first in the department. But the latest bad weather prevents the opening, which was planned for next month.

Soggy ground and subsidence, the risk of collapse still looms over the project. If the interior of the house is finished, the exterior is still under construction.

Difficult land to redevelop

The rains during the night of October 17 to 18 destroyed the earthworks which had been carried out at the end of the summer. In these conditions, it is impossible to build the exterior enclosures, and therefore to welcome and care for the first arrivals. Without forgetting that, without redevelopment of the land, the damage will continue.

The Erina association is considering various solutions, but most are difficult to implement, due to difficult terrain for transporting materials, bringing in machines or pouring concrete. A little simpler to make, a gabion wall, made of metal cages filled with stones, would be preferred.

Between the reconstruction of the land and the development of the exterior enclosures, the opening of the care center is delayed by at least two months. The association, which wanted to train its volunteers before the high season (from April, between 10 and 20 calls per day) must postpone an entire schedule.

To avoid extending already significant deadlines, the founders of Erina are calling for the solidarity of residents. They need professional advice for land development or transporting materials. Donations to finance the work are welcome. And there is always a need for additional manpower to save little hedgehogs and squirrels.
