Whitehorse Mayor Laura Cabott announced Wednesday that she will not seek a new term in the next election scheduled for this fall.

Lawyer by training, Laura Cabott was elected mayor of the Yukon capital for the first time in October 2021. She had already completed a three-year term as municipal councilor.

I was happy to work with the team that managed this beautiful city. Being an effective mayor is demanding and requires being present in Whitehorse at all times. This work has been a privilege and an honorthe statement continues.

mrs Cabott cites several projects of which she is particularly proud, including new housing initiatives, improving the public transportation system and responding to unforeseen emergenciessuch as landslides, forest fires and power outages.

She also mentions that relations with the federal, territorial and First Nations governments have been a climax for the city.

I am proud to be well prepared, to know the issues inside and out and to be a fervent defender of this cityshe adds.

Additionally, I have enjoyed representing Whitehorse at many important events and celebrations.

Laura Cabott will chair the municipal council for the last time as mayor on September 23. Municipal elections are scheduled for October.
