– Alpes de Haute Provence –

There are reportedly 46 million phones buried at the bottom of a drawer in France. Faced with this observation, for five years, Ecosystem, an eco-organization which works to extend the lifespan of electrical equipment, has been organizing solidarity telephone collections. Objective: to raise awareness among the population about the second life of these phones. In fact, 16 million smartphones are sold each year on the national territory requiring 32,000 tonnes of raw materials. In the Alpes de Haute-Provence, Ecosystem is mobilizing alongside the town of Barcelonnette and Durance Lubéron Verdon Agglomération. Until July 16, several collection points will allow residents to drop off phones they no longer use, whether they are still functional or broken. Phones that will be recycled or reconditioned explains Laura Chech, responsible for this operation at Ecosystem.

“By donating your phones, you will be making an environmental gesture but also a solidarity gesture. Barcelonnette will choose a local association to which up to 100 reconditioned phones will be donated. DLVAgglo will contribute to the donations of the 1,000 refurbished phones that we are offering to Emmaüs”, L. Chech
