As of 1er June, on the English coast, in Dover, the British will be able to witness the multiple departures of these crazy swimmers who undertake to swim across the Channel alone or in groups. This rather confidential show lasts until the end of October. A much wider period than before. “In 2002, when I made my crossing, we were only 60 swimmers and the period was from July 15 to September 15”, indicates Jacques Tuset, one of the French references in open water swimming and the director of Nage escape. The window of opportunity to take off has therefore widened, to nourish the desire for adventure but not only that.

It features in the legendary crossings, those that all open water swimmers dream of accomplishing. It is nicknamed “the Everest of swimming”. 33 km to connect Dover in England to Calais, an average of around fifteen hours of effort in water varying between 14 and 19 degrees. Every year, several hundred people apply to swim across the Channel and this number only increases over the years. “Before, it was the Everest of swimming, now it’s the Mont Blanc of swimming. It takes three years to wait before having a slot to leave”says Jacques Tuset with irony.

Approximately €9,000 budget

Today, to cherish the hope of accomplishing this challenge, you must be patient to get your place and also gather the necessary funds. …
