In Saint-Pierre-la-Vieille (), on Sunday October 6, 2024, Sergeant Aurélien Queval lived as a first intervention to his new rank the birth of Apolline. A surprise and unusual experience which brought a smile to the fire team who came to the scene that day.
Just promoted to Sergeanttherefore equipment leader of a team, on Friday October 4, 2024, Sergeant Aurélien Queval explains: “which consists of having a single team under my command” and was called for his first intervention at this rank on Sunday October 6 at 4:03 a.m. with “a message imminent or in progress” on his pager.
His two other teammates, First Class Louisa Lamfroy-Cavret and Corporal Marius Bin, found him at the barracks. When Sergeant Aurélien Queval takes his departure order: “I see that the baby's head is already sticking out: there, we know that we are going to give birth”.

The baby is out

On the road to Saint-Pierre-la-Vieille they receive “a radio message announcing that the baby has come out”. It was then that Sergeant Queval gave his orders to Louisa: “You will take care of the mother”.

First class Louisa Lamfroy-Cavret immediately felt at ease. It was, for her too, her first childbirth.

I opened the delivery kit for the delivery and sterilization of the baby. I clamped the baby's cord so the daddy could cut it afterwards.

Corporal Marius Bin, driver of the ambulance, marked out on the orders of the chief of equipment because “the intervention took place at home, on the side of a departmental road”. Then he took the constants of the newborn and his mother.

First class Louisa Lamfroy-Cavret, for her part, took care of the mother and baby in the ambulance to Flers (Orne).

On the way to the hospital, well accompanied

When the mother and baby were transported in the fire brigade vehicle, the SMUR from Flers, with a doctor, a nurse and a stretcher bearer on board, arrived on site.

Sergeant Queval immediately communicates the first elements to the doctor while the SMUR crew finishes preparing the mother and baby for transport to hospital.

The mother and her newborn will be well looked after because, in addition to the three crew members on board, there will be the doctor and the nurse who will accompany them to Flers.

Welcome to Apolline!

The newborn is a little girl named Apollo. She already has a big brother, Sacha aged 18 months, who was present and a little lost when his little sister was born.

The parents were very relaxed, calm. As a result, this allows for calm intervention.

“You have to think about the baby’s entourage. The mother was not at full term and had a few contractions. In 3 minutes her little girl was born.”

It was also a first for the whole family because the birth took place on the day they moved in.

Official presentation of the baby

The happy parents, Dina and Clément, came on Saturday October 12, accompanied by their children, to present little Apolline to the barracks in the presence of the center head, chief warrant officer Jérôme Boittin.

The firefighters gave flowers to the mother and a little cuddly toy to Apolline, then received a box of chocolates.

Three happy firefighters

“For my first intervention, I was stressed at the beginning then relieved and happy to have done it,” summarizes Sergeant Aurélien Queval.

The happiness of this intervention for the parents, for us and above all the emotion.

First Class Louisa Lamfroy-Cavret retains

Corporal Marius Bin had “the chance to carry out this intervention with this relaxed team. It was exceptional and it made us happy.”

The crew points out that it is rare to have a birth for a small center: “we are lucky to be able to make rare and joyful interventions”.
