Inaugurated on October 4, the Erp municipal forest is the first in Ariège and the second in Occitanie to have seen the light of day… Cocorico in Couserans! Born in 2019, this project offers municipalities the opportunity to entrust a group of children with a plot of forest. Accompanied by regional unions, the children work with their teachers and elected officials on their plot in order to understand the multifunctionality of forests and local issues. : fire risk, forest management, wooden constructions… The forest is passed on from year to year to other children in the same school so that they can continue the work started. The national federation of forest municipalities imagined and implemented this educational forest program to reconnect the youngest, citizens of tomorrow, to forest areas by becoming true ambassadors of their plot. To follow other interventions by woodworking professionals at the Eycheil school, a visit to a sawmill at the start of 2025 and as a project, the creation of a botanical and birdlife trail created by the students.
