The City of Rimouski will begin work on Monday to widen Montée Industrielle-et-Commerciale and extend Arthur-Buies Boulevard to the east, all in preparation for the arrival of Costco.

Motorists will have to be patient since traffic will be reduced to one lane in each direction, south and north of Arthur-Buies Boulevard, until June 21.

Access to businesses in the area will be possible at all times. The City still encourages motorists to consider an alternative route since a traffic slowdown is expected.

The work for the extension of Arthur-Buies to Avenue du Havre, towards the east, aims to connect this artery to the industrial park. The City eventually intends to develop new land in this area.

The local company Les Excavations Léon Chouinard et fils won the contract to carry out this work at a cost of $4.9 million. The City also adopted a loan by-law of $4,474,000, repayable over 20 years.

For their part, work to prepare the land that will accommodate the future Costco began at the end of April, at the corner of Montée-Industrielle-et-Commerciale and Boulevard Arthur-Buies.

A few days before the start of this project, Costco had officially reached an agreement with the City to purchase the two lots that will house its warehouse store in Rimouski, at a cost of $3,414,877.50.
