The announcement provoked the ire of many motorists and even the Île-de-France region. Last September, the mayor of Paris, Anne Hidalgo, announced the reduction of speed to 50 km/h on the ring road from October 1. This Friday, October 18, the capital’s town hall published the first figures for the week spanning September 30 to October 4. And according to the first figures, the results turn out to be positive. In addition to the reduction in air pollution, noise has decreased by 2.6 decibels compared to the same period last year, reports France 3.
In the interest of transparency with users and local residents, Anne Hidalgo notably announced that a “peripheral weekly bulletin” would be published on the town hall website. It will make it possible to “monitor, week after week, the evolution of noise, air pollution, accidents but also traffic jams and average speed”. The figures collected will be established by both Airparif, Bruitparif as well as the Parisian Mobility Observatory of the city of Paris.
Slower speed at night
Still according to figures from Paris town hall, if the average speed during the day continues to stagnate at 37 km/h on average, the speed at night has fallen to 55.1 km/h on average since the passage 70 to 50 km/h on the road network surrounding the capital.
