Lagny-sur-Marne: the body of a sixty-year-old fished out of the Marne

The scene took place around 6 p.m. this Tuesday. A woman sees firefighters and divers “bringing something up” from the water of the Marne at Quai Savarin, in Lagny-sur-Marne (Seine-et-Marne). At first she wonders if it’s just an exercise. In reality, it is a real operation which aims to extract from the river the lifeless body of a woman believed to be around sixty years old. This Wednesday, May 22, his identity has not yet been established. A large police force has been put in place throughout a security perimeter. An autopsy was requested to identify the victim.

Tuesday May 21, around 4:15 p.m., firefighters and police officers were called following several testimonies from passers-by who said they had seen a body floating in the water of the Marne. Three fire engines quickly arrived on site. They indeed noticed the presence of a corpse 1.50 m from the edge of the platform. A security perimeter is installed under the eyes of a few curious people. An elected official from the town hall on call quickly joins the scene. He did not wish to speak.

The intervention begins around 4:40 p.m. Three specialized firefighters dive into the river to recover the lifeless body. It ends around 6:40 p.m. The body was sent to the forensic institute for an autopsy. It is not yet known how long it was present in the water. No leads are currently prioritized by the police officers from the Lagny-Chessy police station, in charge of the investigation. The fact remains that no worrying disappearances had been reported in the area in recent days.
