Binche: the PS no longer opens its absolute majority

With 20 seats out of 31, the Binchois Socialist Party had a choice. Open his absolute majority to a partner, as he has already done on several occasions, or manage the municipal college alone for the next 6 years. It is the second option which was unanimously supported by PS activists. The MR-CI will therefore no longer be associated with the Binchois majority. Laurent Devin, Mayor of Binche, justifies his choice.

The context has changed profoundly. What was expressed at the meeting was a lack of loyalty from a partner, with whom we had been for 18 years, who made hateful remarks towards the Socialist Party and who expressed the desire for a profound change, that is to say without the Socialist Party right away, or even in six years. In these conditions, it is difficult to go together.

The MR-CI, relegated to the opposition, despite its 8 seats, took note of the decision of the socialist party. The party reacted by press release.

The MR-CI list took note of the fact that the PS ousts it from the municipal majority (…) This unilateral decision omits the positive results of the MR aldermen from 2006 to 2024 (…) We will now focus on opposition work at all times, positive and constructive but without concession (…) The populist and unrealistic proposals claimed by the PS during the electoral campaign (…) strengthen us in our difference compared to what will be , without a doubt, proposed in terms of vision for the future.

The MR-Ci out of the picture, in the eyes of the socialists, remained the PTB with two seats and Ensemble Pour Binche with one seat. They too will not expand the majority.

For his 4th consecutive mandate, the position of Laurent Devin seems strengthened. The municipal college is well-known. Composed of experienced personalities (Kevin Van Houter, Larissa Davoine, Frédéric Tilmant and Philippe Labar). But also elected officials who will take on scabinal responsibilities for the first time (Marjorie Alongi, Thomas Beaujean and Cécile Corso).

The municipal council will take office on December 2 with 20 members for the majority, therefore, and 11 for the opposition.
