They come from the four corners of the country – Marseille, Strasbourg, Amiens, Montpellier, to name just a few cities – and are originally from France, Haiti, Belgium, Brazil, or Congo. They are the fathers of Saint-Jacques. There are around twenty of them who left their bags in Périgueux at the start of the week for a Mission. Because since October 13, for the Catholic Church, it is the 98th edition of World Missionary Week which “calls Catholics to prayer and sharing”. Launched by Pope Francis, it ends every year on the third Sunday in October.
Every day, the fathers of Saint-Jacques walk the streets of Périgueux to introduce themselves to the population and discuss. “We are going to meet the residents,” explains one of its representatives. The society of priests of Saint-Jacques is a society of missionary priests which has its origins in Haiti. Created in 1864, it is headquartered in Brittany, in Guiclan.
