An experiment will begin on Monday October 21 on the route of Voie Lyonnaise n°12. It involves the one-way passage of Avenue Rockefeller, in the 3rd and 8th arrondissements of Lyon.

It will soon no longer be possible to travel from east to west on Avenue Rockefeller in Lyon. The Métropole de Lyon will launch an experiment on this section going from Place d’Arsonval (in front of the Edouard-Herriot hospital) to Boulevard Pinel. From October 21, late in the afternoon, and until June 2025, Rockefeller Avenue will be one-way.

Concretely, cars arriving from Boulevard Pinel and Avenue Franklin Roosevelt will no longer be able to use Avenue Rockefeller.

Passage of Voie Lyonnaise N°12

This temporary traffic change occurs as part of the cycle highway project, with Voie Lyonnaise No. 12, 19 kilometers long, which will connect the 9e district of Lyon in Saint-Priest.

Given the current road layout, “Making Rockefeller Avenue one-way is the only solution to provide a secure cycle path and improve pedestrian comfort”justifies Greater Lyon in a press release published this Thursday, October 17. The Metropolis also recalls that this proposal is that of several local residents, questioned during consultations and public meetings on the project.

At least until June 2025

If the final work on Lane No. 12 will end in 2026, the experiment on the one-way passage of Rockefeller Avenue will end in June 2025. Until then, the flow of motorized vehicles and travel by bike will be analyzed. An independent design office will be regularly on site to complete the counting results.

If the results of the experiment are conclusive, the one-way passage of the avenue will be made permanent.
