UDC Thomas Aeschi denounces the “left turn” of the SSUP.Keystone

The UDC is not really delighted with the management, administration of the Grütli and the organization of August 1st. The administration would be too left-wing.

The administration of the Grütli and the organization of the national holiday on the historic meadow must not fall to the Confederation. Considering that the administration by the Swiss Society of Public Utility (SSUP) has proven itself, a committee of the Council of States decides against a motion from the National.

The text, submitted by Thomas Aeschi (UDC/ZG), denounces the “left turn” of the SSUP. This is evidenced, according to the head of the UDC group, by the choice of speakers to deliver the speech on August 1 in recent years, with Simonetta Sommaruga on several occasions, Alain Berset or Elisabeth Baume-Schneider.

For the Zugois, the State must itself administer “the cradle of the Swiss Confederation” and terminate the agreement concluded between the Confederation and the SSUP on collaboration concerning the management of real estate in Grütli.

A collaboration that works

The Committee on Political Institutions of the Council of States, however, does not support these demands. The hearings carried out showed that the collaboration between the SSUP, the neighboring cantons and the Confederation worked, even in difficult times, indicated the services of the Parliament on Tuesday in a press release.

The commission “took note with satisfaction of the fact that the SSUP was considering expanding the Grütli delegation”, which is responsible for the National Day, she adds.

During its deliberations, the commission initially preferred a modified version to the original text, which only covered the organization of the national holiday at Grütli. She then rejected the amended text by 9 votes to 3. The Federal Council also opposes the motion. (ats)
