But it took a stunning scenario for Rachid Meziane’s team to win the first meeting. While trailing by 14 points at half-time, the Northerners managed an improbable comeback to win away. A feat that no French team had achieved in Landes this season.
First in the regular season, Villeneuve-d’Ascq is therefore only one step away from being crowned champion of France, after having lost only three matches throughout the season in LFB. Finalist of the last edition, the club would then win the second title in its history, after that of 2017. Champions of France in 2021, the Landaises still hope to catch up with their rivals this Friday, they who have already lost in the final of the Coupe de France this season against Bourges (63-76), a competition in which they were double title holders.
In the event of a Landes victory, a decisive match will take place on Sunday May 19 at 3:15 p.m. on the Nordistes court.
The second round of the Women’s Basketball League final between Villeneuve-d’Ascq and Basket Landes is scheduled for 8:45 p.m. this Friday, May 17, at the Palacium in Villeneuve-d’Ascq. The meeting will be broadcast live on Skweek and Sport in France.
