Dakar, Oct 11 (APS) – Abdoulaye Koundoul, technical advisor to the Prime Minister, invited, Friday, the elected officials of Thiaroye (west) to get involved in the organization of the events planned for the 80e anniversary of the massacre of Senegalese riflemen, which took place on 1is December 1944 in a military camp located in this city.
”We ask the territorial authorities of Thiaroye, especially the municipal councilors, to get involved in the organization of the demonstrations, for the success of the commemoration of this massacre,” he said.
Mr. Koundoul was speaking at a presentation meeting of the committee responsible for commemorating this event to elected officials from Thiaroye, in the Dakar region.
The committee was set up last August by the Prime Minister, Ousmane Sonko.
Chaired by the historian Mamadou Diouf, it is responsible, beyond the organization of the commemoration, of reestablishing the facts by bringing together the evidence, documents and testimonies allowing us to “better understand this dark episode of our history”, explained the technical advisor to the Prime Minister.
Abdoulaye Koundoul believes that the success of this commemoration requires sustained collaboration between the municipal council and the residents of this city with government authorities.
”We must avoid this commemoration giving the impression that we are exporting an event here, to Thiaroye, to then go elsewhere, at its end. People must be given a voice so that they can participate […] to this commemoration,” he argued.
Sixteen African heads of state are invited by the Senegalese authorities to take part in this event planned in Thiaroye on December 1, according to Mr. Koundoul.
