In this month of May, it hangs in the air of the barracks district of the central house of Saint-Martin like an air of déjà vu, with a series of attacks, insults and death threats. A neighborhood where the most problematic inmates are assigned, including “many psychiatric cases in an establishment unsuitable for these profiles,” notes Ludovic Lillo, local secretary of Force Ouvrière Justice. On May 4, at the beginning of the afternoon, during an ordered search of a cell and its 27-year-old occupant, the ordinary check turned into a refusal to comply and the assault of two agents. “Blows to the face, to the leg on one agent and a blow to the head for the second,” summarizes the union representative. Result of the searches, narcotic product and a SIM card discovered.

On the morning of the 9th, following the disturbance of a 32-year-old inmate, a prison officer was physically threatened. However, the man, a repeat offender for acts of aggression against fellow prisoners and surveillance staff in other establishments, was brought under control in time and taken to the disciplinary unit. The individual had just arrived in February from the specially equipped hospital unit in Cadillac where he had attacked a nursing staff.

Nine days of ITT

On May 12, during the morning shower movement, a 23-year-old inmate who had arrived in Saint-Martin since last November, attacked an officer. After punching him in the face and abdomen, it took six staff members to put an end to it. A simple lull because he then tried to mutilate himself and then bang his head against the walls.

“Unfit for the ward, unfit for an emergency protection cell for suicidal people, unfit for confinement to finally be fit for the disciplinary ward,” drops the local FO secretary, wondering about the disciplinary history of the man who already counts 13 incident reports in twelve months. The supervisor received 9 days of temporary work interruption.

Since 1er January, 11 attacks on Saint-Martin surveillance staff were recorded.
