It’s the end of the American dream for Ludovic Waeber. The 27-year-old Friborg goalkeeper announced this Sunday, in the column he wrote in Sunday Morningthat he will return next season to Switzerland, more precisely to the ZSC Lions, with whom he is still under contract.

Having moved from Charlotte to Wilkes-Barre/Cranton (AHL), the farm club of the Pittsburgh Penguins, Ludovic Waeber did not manage to find a place as No. 1. “In recent months, I have had a hard time, he writes in particular in his column. (…) If tomorrow, as was the case with the Florida Panthers sixteen months ago, an NHL club wishes to speak with me by Zoom, I will not respond favorably.

Ludovic Waeber announces that he is leaving the United States without resentment: “I have nothing, nothing at all, against the North American teams. On the contrary, I am grateful to them for the experience they had. But I made another choice.”

This choice therefore brings him back to Zurich, with whom he had disgusted FR Gottéron in the play-off semi-final in 2022. “I can tell you: with my agent, we confirmed to ZSC Lions, the National League club with whom I am bound by contract for the 2024-2025 season, that I will be back within their organization.

In Zurich, Ludovic Waeber will however be in competition with Czech goalkeeper Simon Hrubec, who played a leading role in the reigning champions’ cage during the last play-offs, notably in the final against Lausanne HC.
