A match to be played on the field… judicial? The subject of a future PSG stadium comes back to the forefront as the Paris Council has just opened this Tuesday. The deputy in charge of sports wishes to propose Thursday to the elected officials of the capital to authorize the City to take legal action. Objective: to cancel the region’s amendment which plans to reserve 50 ha – without location, without consultation – for the reception of a possible new PSG stadium in Île-de-France.
Nothing to worry about Jean-Michel Fourgous, president (LR) of the agglomeration community of Saint-Quentin-en-Yvelines, who has ready-made land on the leisure center, in the commune of Montigny-le-Bretonneux. “It’s what we call a political move, a pressure move,” says the elected official, who sees this as an “out of the ground” or even “a little desperate” maneuver. “Frankly, it doesn’t worry me, I’m not sure that PSG is very attentive to that,” he adds, doubtfully.
The president (LR) of the regional council did not fail to react either. “Instead of trying to clip the wings of PSG through a legal procedure which has no chance of succeeding, Paris City Hall would do better to resume dialogue with our club if it wants to keep it at the Parc des Princes,” launched this Tuesday Valérie Pécresse on her X account (ex-Twitter).
“They want one, if not the most beautiful stadium in the world”
A new episode in this standoff between the Qatari owners of Paris-Saint-Germain and the Paris town hall, which refuses to sell them the Parc des Princes. Several projects were mentioned, including the construction of a new structure outside the capital. But what makes Parisian elected officials jump is also the noise of a “pretty crazy project”, a “ PSG Land » around a new 80,000-seat stadium with “concerts, cinemas, shops, restaurants and hotels”.
Vision which is not contradicted on the ground. “I can’t say too much because they may still be my future clients, but the meetings I have with them are still very structured and very serious,” adds Jean-Michel Fourgous. They want a product, a project, with greater attractiveness like what is currently being done and on this, the land reserve of the current stadium does not meet the specifications of PSG.
