Before leaving, find out about the condition of the trails to know, for example, if there is snow, roots, scree…, and also take note of the weather forecasts. You can get advice from guide and tour guide offices, refuge keepers or tourist offices.

Inform those around you of your route, your return times and if you have a RECO type reflector beacon or a geolocation application, indicate this too. Either way, bring a means of communication – batteries recharged!

Finally, go with suitable equipment, including good shoes and walking poles. Equip yourself according to the forecasted weather, also take food and drink in your backpack as well as a survival blanket or warm clothing.

And then, don’t forget that the mountain changes according to the seasons. Find out about current conditions and don’t transfer your knowledge from a site you visited in winter to a summer practice and vice versa.

To find out more, go to the sport.gouv.fr website in the “Practice in summer” section.
