Two exceptional days to visit the extension site of the Departmental Archives – Medialot

They are scheduled for May 25 and 26, 2024 (registration required, link in the article).

The Lot Departmental Archives extension project is underway in Cahors (rue des Cadourques). On this occasion, the Lot Department is organizing two open days, Saturday May 25 and Sunday May 26, 2024, with free, group guided tours, scheduled each day at 10 a.m., 2 p.m. and 4 p.m.

These site visits only take place upon registration via the lot.fr website.

The 11 km of current shelving in the Lot Departmental Archives has reached saturation. The former Capuchin convent in Cahors, which preserves the memory of the Lot through millions of documents dating back to the Middle Ages, is struggling to accommodate new funds.

The Department of Lot is therefore investing 9.2 million euros (with state aid in particular within the framework of France Relance to the tune of nearly 1.9 million euros) to almost double the capacities of the departmental archives in the nearby Maison des Œuvres.

The extension project integrates bioclimatic thinking, making it possible to optimize user comfort (thermal, visual, acoustic), to limit energy consumption with a heat pump powered by geothermal energy on probes (9 wells 200m deep) , the integration of photovoltaic panels in shade structures and the use of 50,000 raw earth bricks to regulate the conservation stores. To find out more, come to the open house!
