Three alleged car thieves who allegedly hit a police officer with a vehicle while trying to flee the scene of the crime in early April were arrested in recent days, Montreal police announced Friday.

Shortly before 2 p.m. on April 7, patrol officers went to Stanley Street, near the intersection with Sherbrooke Street, to respond to a call concerning a vehicle theft. On site, they located four suspicious vehicles.

One of the officers then approaches an individual driving a black BWM sedan. However, the latter allegedly hit the police officer while fleeing. He then allegedly drove on the sidewalk in the opposite direction in order to escape the authorities.

The suspects in the three other vehicles fled in turn, carrying out several dangerous maneuvers, while several pedestrians and other cars were in the area.

During the investigation, a first suspect, aged 18, was arrested in a residence in the city center. Tools that could be used to steal vehicles were also found at the scene.

Then, on the evening of May 8, two other individuals, aged 20 and 25, were apprehended in an apartment in Outremont, at the end of an operation in which the Tactical Intervention Group participated. There too, tools used for vehicle theft were found.

Two of the three suspects have since appeared at the Montreal courthouse to face charges of vehicle theft, receiving stolen property, fleeing and dangerous driving. One of them, believed to be the one who hit the police officer, is also accused of assault with a weapon and breach of conditions. The third suspect was released on conditions pending his appearance.

A fourth suspect remains wanted. Anyone with information about these suspected thieves is asked to contact 911 or their local station. It is also possible to contact Info-Crime Montréal anonymously, at 514-393-1133 or via the reporting form available on the web.
