MONTRÉAL DU GERS AND WITTISHEIM, A STORY THAT STARTS IN 1940
The twinning with Montreal of the Gers is linked to the history and the sad evacuation of the 1100 inhabitants of our commune from June to September 1940 in the Gers. From the 1970s, a few families from Wittisheim, on their way to Lourdes, stopped in Montreal and reconnected with the residents. The signing of the twinning oath by Mayors Lucien Baumlin of Wittisheim and André Duffau of Montreal of the Gers took place on August 5, 1984 in the Gers. Since then, the two communities have met regularly in Alsace or Gascony.
The “Twinning and Meetings” Association invites you to the 40th Anniversary of the Wittisheim (Alsace) and Montréal-du-Gers Twinning:
on Saturday May 11, 2024.
A twinning allows us to strengthen the links created by History, and to maintain a friendship present beyond the regions but also for the future of the children who will, in turn, we hope, write the sequel…. us, it’s up to you to continue this magnificent link…
This day will end with the official evening, hosted by Banda les Kanari’s, a gourmet and festive moment, like this twinning….

Today’s program:
9 a.m.: Place de l’Hôtel de Ville – Gascon breakfast (salty, sweet, enough to get you going for the day)
- 9:30 a.m.: at the bowling alley – Pétanque competition
- 10 a.m.: departure from City Hall Square – supervised hike for all ages on the Montreal trails (2 hours)
- 10 a.m.: town hall square – fun treasure hunt by team to visit our country house
12 p.m. Town Hall Square for a barbecue picnic to the sound of the junior band Kcrescendo participation including breakfast, activity of your choice and barbecue picnic: €10
OFFICIAL EVENING 7:30 p.m. 40th anniversary meal hosted by Kanari’s – full evening: €35 adults / €20 under 12s
