The 16th edition of the US-Africa Business Summit took place from May 6 to 9, 2024 in Dallas. A delegation from Mauritania, led by its Prime Minister and its Minister of Energy, traveled to Texas. The opportunity, in particular, to reassure investors about the project to exploit natural gas extracted on the border between Mauritanian and Senegalese territorial waters called Grand Tortoise Ahmeyim (GTA).

This week, a Mauritanian delegation led by the Prime Minister and his Minister of Energy traveled to Texas. First in Houston, the energy capital, for the opening of the “Offshore Hydrocarbon Exploration and Exploitation Technologies Exhibition” (OTC), then in Dallas to present the assets of the Mauritania during the 16th United States-Africa Economic Summit which was held at the same time.

Investors wanted to know more about the delays in exploiting natural gas extracted on the border of Mauritanian and Senegalese territorial waters with the GTA project (Large turtle Ahmeyim) but also on future possibilities…

Since 2013 and the discovery of gas reserves offshore, the GTA project, led by BP, has experienced ups and downs. But the operating megastructures are now in place and production should begin soon.
